Barrie Foster & Associates

Barrie Foster & Associates have provided professional services to the tourism and leisure sector since 1985. Clients have included individual businesses, local authorities, tourist boards, development agencies, trade groups and community groups.

Individual projects have covered all aspects of tourism and leisure and at all stages of strategic development—from feasibility; through business and marketing planning; to product and marketing audits.
BFA can demonstrate substantial experience of dealing with regional development issues and initiatives, especially in rural areas and where tourism and leisure are important components of integrated economic development. In this context we have, over many years, maintained close contact with grass roots tourism through delivery of mentoring services to small and medium size enterprises.
Our project portfolio includes completed work on individual tourism operations for both public and private sector clients. Day visitor attractions and venues that depend heavily on the provision of  information and interpretative material are well represented. Of equal interest is development that adds value to basic tourism resources and products — outdoor activities, historical tourism, cultural tourism and the rest.
Barrie Foster has worked with a variety of marketing and communications media since the 1970s. This long familiarity provides the foundation for combining the most appropriate media and marketing mechanisms for maximum impact.
Information is the springboard for sound strategic thinking. BFA resources include data gathered over many years, together with the results of specific research commissions.

The BFA Bookshop

Our Bookshop, which offered a small selection of histories from our own bookshelves, laid the foundation for our associate site, History Unlimited. The History Unlimited Bookshop has a much more comprehensive collection of classic titles, with more detailed reviews and comment. The original Bookshop on this site has therefore been superseded and has been deleted, but we have retained Amazon search boxes on each page for the convenience of site visitors. History Unlimited also includes a Film Store covering 100 years of cinema; a Blues Store which traces the history of the blues from the Mississippi Delta to the urban centres of the north; and a Jazz Store, still under development, featuring the period from the earliest recordings to the 1960s; all in association with Amazon. New content is added continually, (as and when our mainstream consultancy work allows). History Unlimited also gives direct access to Amazon Blu-ray titles and DVD Rentals from the Film Store, and to Amazon MP3 downloads from the Blues and Jazz pages (with sample streaming tracks for each featured artist). Amazon MP3 downloads are free from DRM (Digital Rights Management) and are therefore compatible with any music programme, including iPod and Windows Media Player. History Unlimited now features some 1,600 classic books, films, blues albums and jazz albums.

The BFA Photo Library

2009 saw the inclusion of a small selection from our Photo Library. Our web site features recent, and mainly local (North Pembrokeshire) pictures, to give a flavour of post-digital additions. For more information and the Index, go to Galleries.
